To crave knowledge

what will it take

she asked

what will it take

to hold the sky in my palms?

for a limb

my friend

for a limb

you can hold the sky in your palms

I fell to my knees

exchanged my feet

to hold the sky in my palms.

what will it take

she asked

what will it take

to wear the moon on my neck?

for a pair of eyes

my friend

for a pair of eyes

you can wear the moon on your neck

the world grew dark

in exchange for eyes

I tore and wore the moon on my neck.

what will it take

she asked

what will it take

to pluck and swallow the sun?

for a soul

dear friend

for a soul

you can pluck and swallow the sun

ribs disjoint and flesh rots

in exchange for my soul

I stretched and swallowed the sun.

and the fire I ate

sealed my rapturous fate

I bristled and burned

turned all that I learned

to dust in the ground

not another soul found.
